Will Frank Reich Find His Franchise Quarterback?

The Carolina Panthers are my favorite NFL team. Those familiar with the situation know that the franchise has hired a new Head Coach, Frank Reich. Reich has started building his staff, beginning with the defensive coordinator, yet this is different from the question that has filled most of the fanbase. The question that I and many others are asking revolves around the quarterback. We want to know if Reich is willing to go get the next franchise guy in the draft or if he is looking at some veterans on the free agent and trade market.

Looking at the article above, CBS Sports has the Panthers unable to move up from the 9th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and being left with Florida quarterback prospect Anthony Richardson. Richardson is who I have personally ranked 4th at his position behind Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, and Will Levis. Taking Richardson at 9 would be a draft disaster.

We should move up to get either Young or Stroud. Still, if both are gone, I would rather have Levis or free agent Derek Carr over gambling on a quarterback who is a questionable prospect when picking inside the top 10.

Dean Jones cites CBS Sports as they claim that we have struck out on free agent quarterbacks in the years past and are in desperate need of a quarterback, and while I agree with this free agent take, I agree more with Jones when he says, "taking the raw prospect No. 9 overall is a risk all things considered." Richardson is widely considered to have one of the highest ceilings in the draft. Still, having only started thirteen games in his time at Florida, he is a very raw prospect. His 2022 campaign started rough, but he made huge strides to end the season. Suppose he can make these kinds of strides in his first few months in the NFL offseason. In that case, his dual-threat abilities could turn a franchise such as Carolina around. Reich has some big decisions to make in the next few weeks that could alter the course of his tenure in Charlotte.
