Two Weeks Until Decision Time

At the time of writing this, we are 14 days, 1 hour, and 49 minutes away from the start of the 2023 NFL Draft. As an avid Panthers fan, I can hardly contain my excitement for the future.

However, as it stands, there are only probably 5 people that know whether or not I am going to punch a hole in my wall as I weep for the future of my favorite franchise or if I rejoice and brag on here the next day about how we will win a Super Bowl within 5 years. No, there is no in-between.

That being said, some new knowledge might lead the public closer to knowing who will be the future of Carolina football. A fancy new metric to judge quarterbacks on is the S2 Cognitive test. Several current players, as well as former players, have taken the test, and there is a trend. Higher scores translate to better performances. Some examples of high scorers are Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes, and Josh Allen. The one tester pushing the envelope for me is Brock Purdy. Purdy was the last pick in the draft in 2022, but he was the highest scorer in his class; Purdy would get a chance to start after injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo, and he would go on to rattle off a perfect regular season record as a starter going 6-0. He would win two games in the playoffs before getting hurt against Philly in the NFC Championship.

If someone with the physical abilities of Brock Purdy can be successful, then the S2 test should be pretty good a predicting quarterbacks, right? If so, the Carolina Panthers will take Bryce Young first overall. Young has the tape, stats, and skills to prove he is an elite quarterback and has the highest S2 test in his class. Not only that, but he has a higher score than anyone mentioned in this post. His biggest competition for the first pick was the Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud, who reportedly scored terribly on the test. So if everything goes right on draft night, Bryce Young's name will be called first.
